Sol's Biography

Sol is in his third term on the Maui County Council as the Lăna`i representative. He has also represented the Seventh and the more recently apportioned Thirteenth Districts in the Hawai`i State Legislature and also held the position of Executive Director of the Kaho`olawe Island Reserve Commission.

Previous to his work in public service, Sol represented Lăna`i on several boards and commissions, including the Lăna`i Citizens Advisory Committee and the Maui Economic Development Board. He was employed in the visitor industry as a cultural instructor and historian for Castle & Cook at the Hotel Lăna`i, the Mănele Bay Hotel, and the Lodge at Kő`ele. As a young man, before and after his college years, Sol worked for the pineapple plantation on Lăna`i. Sol's wife Lynn is a Vice-Principal of Lăhainaluna High School and they have four children and three grandchildren. Sol has participated on international commissions, such as the National Committee on US/China Relations, and has also crewed on a Hőkule`a voyage to the South Pacific. Sol is a seventh generation Lanaian; his family lineage and ties to the island can be traced back 700 years.
