Lana‘i Residency DecisionFAVORABLE OUTCOME FOR SOL KAHO’OHALAHALA Ruling on Challenge by Voter Regarding the Voter Registration Status of Solomon P. Kaho’ohalahala Friends of Sol, October 10, 2008 When Sol Kaho’ohalahala filed nomination papers for the Maui County Council Lana’i seat, there was no doubt of his Lana’i residency. Sol was born and raised on Lana’i. Over the past three decades Sol has represented Lana’i on the Maui County Council, in the State Legislature, on two Lana’i Citizens Advisory Councils, and on the State Hawaiian Sovereignty Commission. It is clear that Sol is aware of Lanai’s problems and issues. When Sol served Lana’i on the Maui County Council, one of his first actions was to establish a county office on Lana’i. This allowed residents to receive timely notices regarding the county budget, job openings, and any issues relating to Lana’i and the county in general. Because of this outreach, Lana’i residents had open access to government and became active participants in shaping their community. After Sol’s landslide victory in the primary election, his opponent’s campaign chose to engage in character assassination by misusing an official process. The fact that the opponents’ campaign waited to come forward until after the election results underscores this abuse. “There are serious issues facing the people of Lana’i and the county as a whole. Our time is better spent on focusing on real substance.”
