WaterWater is the single most important resource that allows us to live on remote islands completely surrounded by ocean. Without it, none of us would be here today. Current trends of greenhouse gas emissions and global warming will begin to have their impacts upon on us, whether we agree with this statement or not. In looking forward, it is clear that we need to assess our current and future demands for water use. We must identify our current water sources and their capacity to meet those demands. We should implement recycling and utilization of grey water, and consider other ways of increasing our current capacity and storage. Water catchments should be encouraged and technologies like atmospheric water generation that utilize renewable energy resources to make water for Maui Nui should be investigated, particularly for arid areas like Lanai and Molokai. Until we can develop more water sources, we should not increase the demand on already-taxed resources.
